Organising the boxes
Label packages clearly and link them to the inventory. Replace one broad household goods entry with meaningful groups such as clothing, books, furniture and appliances. The list should reflect the actual shipment rather than an old packing plan. Update paperwork when contents change.
Items needing more detail
A vehicle, valuable equipment or specially regulated item may need individual identification and evidence. Do not hide it under miscellaneous. Tell the agent about new goods, items belonging to somebody else or goods intended for sale. These can affect relief eligibility.
Several removal consignments
For several consignments, prepare an inventory for each and maintain consistency with relief approval and declaration requirements. The driver needs documents for the batch actually carried. An inventory of the entire home without identifying the current vehicle’s contents can complicate border enquiries.
Before you commission the work
- Label packages and match the inventory.
- Use meaningful categories.
- Identify vehicles and special items.
- Prepare a current list for each batch.
What to watch out for
An inventory alone does not establish relief eligibility. It describes contents; exemption conditions need a separate assessment.
