Vehicle documentation
Bringing a vehicle into Great Britain usually requires an import declaration. Prepare VIN, technical details, ownership documents and purchase or valuation evidence. Direction, purpose and vehicle history can affect the procedure. Polish registration plates alone do not determine the appropriate treatment.
Charges and possible relief
Duty, VAT and possible relief depend on the circumstances. Moving residence or returned goods can require specific evidence and eligibility. A used car is not automatically exempt. Confirm the basis before arranging transport and declaration treatment.
After customs clearance
NOVA and registration are further formalities. Customs release does not establish road approval, technical compliance or completion with DVLA. Check current official requirements and deadlines. This guide does not automatically apply Great Britain rules to Northern Ireland.
Before you commission the work
- VIN and ownership documents.
- Price or valuation evidence.
- Import purpose and relief basis.
- Subsequent NOVA and registration requirements.
What to watch out for
Do not equate ToR with automatic registration. A vehicle benefiting from relief may still need further formalities.
